NCB Busts Illegal Drug Factory Near Hyderabad, Seizes 32.5 kg Alprazolam Worth ₹6.5 Crore.

An illegal clandestine drug manufacturing facility was busted by NCB on 23.12.2024 in Gummadidala Industrial area, district Sangareddy Telangana about 50 km away from Hyderabad and 32.5 kg Alprazolam valued at about Rs. 6.5 crore (street value) was seized. Alprazolam is a prescription drug which is often misused as recreational drug and for mixing with Toddy.

2.       A highly qualified professional with Post Graduate in Organic Chemistry who was working in R&D department of an established pharmaceutical company has been arrested. He had hired premises of pharmaceutical company on rent to run the illegal manufacturing facility. Investigation in the case is in progress with the aim to disrupt the entire eco system involved in drug trafficking.

3.       This operation is a result of 3 months intensive efforts to identify the source of Alprazolam in a case in which about 6 kg Alprazolam was seized by NCB in September 2024 at Sadnagar Toll Plaza on the outskirts of Hyderabad and a 85 years old accused was arrested.

4.       This is the eighth such clandestine drug manufacturing facility which has been busted by NCB this year.     In the recent past one such facility was busted in Bagroda Industrial area of Bhopal with seizure of about 900 kgs of Methadone and the other at Kasana Industrial area of Gautam Budh Nagar where about 95 kg methamphetamine was seized. Incidentally, in both these cases also chemist was involved in the manufacturing of psychotropic drugs.

5.       NCB solicits help from the citizen in making India drug free by 2047 by giving information about drug trafficking at Toll free number 1933.
