Chetan Patil, the structure consultant named in the statue collapse FIR of Shivaji Maharaj of Maharashtra has been arrested at Kolhapur. He was arrested yesterday at night and had been handed over to the Sindhudurg Police for further investigation.

However, Patil has claimed that he was not the structural consultant of that specific statue and that the Thane-based company supervised the work. He has also told news channel ABP Majha that he submitted the structure’s design to the Indian Navy via the state’s public work department (PWD) and he was not involved in the construction of the statue. He also added that his portion of work was limited while the Thane-company took hold of the statue related work.

Chief Minister of the state Eknath Shinde apologised for unfortunate collapse of the construction made eight months earlier. He says, "Chhatrapati Shivaji is a patron deity of Maharashtra. I am ready to touch his feet 100 times and apologise (for the statue collapse in Sindhudurg). I will not shy away from apologising. Our government functions keeping his (Shivaji's) ideals in mind" as reported by PTI.
