BJP in West Bengal summoned a 12-hours strike yesterday over the rape and murder of the R G Kar PG trainee doctor. Bhartiya Janta Party supporters obstructed roads, trains and clashed with police and Trinamool Congress supporters from early morning to execute the strike.

Almost 100 local trains were cancelled as bandh-supporters blocked railway tracks. BJP supporters obstructed railway tracks and also blocked roads by burning tyres, lying down in streets to hinder transportation.

BJP President Sukanta Majumder stated “I would thank the people of Bengal for making the bandh a success. Despite all the atrocities of the police, state administration and TMC workers people supported the bandh”.
